We have had Pedigree Dorsets at Ballyvaddy for many years.
Breeding stock have been purchased from some of the most highly regarded flocks across Northern Ireland and the United Kingdom.
Our Dorset ewes are Scrapie Genotyped and are all now ARR/ARR.
An electronic I.D. bolus system is used.
Lambs are SIGNET Recorded.
The flock is Farm Quality Assured.
We are members of NSA.
A health scheme is being entered to certify high health status for EAE and other diseases.
Stock are eligible for export.
The flock is in an 8-month frequent lambing system. Dorsets lamb naturally out of season so you have no hassle with sponging. Teasers are essential to keep lambing tight.
Our aim is to produce females that lamb every 8 months and have the capability of reaching a lambing % of 250%.
You do not have to use a frequent lambing system but we find it works well for us.
Litter size, carcasse quality and maternal ability are the main aims of our breeding programme.
The Dorset breed has an excellent temperament making handling easier. Ewes are milky and we retain females who have proven they are capable of rearing good lambs.
Dorset lamb is renowned for its tenderness and excellent eating quality.
